MANGUST is a fast skimming boat with "deep-V"
hull form made of aluminum-magnesium alloy.
A significant distinguishing feature of this design
is that while displacing 27.2 tonnes it achieves a
maximum speed of 53 knots and is irreplaceable
for missions falling within the scope of the duties of
maritime police, customs and during search-and-
rescue operations. The project is a universal platform
that can be used for diverse modifications of the
boat according the customer's request. Upgraded
MANGUSTs have significant improvements to the
ship's combat, tactical, seaworthy and technical
characteristics and habitability. New capabilities have
opened fresh opportunities for this project.
MIRAZH patrol boats of Project 14310 are fast
skimming boats featuring an aluminum-magnesium
alloy hard-chine hull. With displacement of 120
tonnes, these boats have speed up to 50 knots and
range of 1500 miles.
Vympel shipyard also offers MOLNIYA missile
boats of Project 12418.
The present-day MOLNIYA missile boat is intended
to destroy detachments of enemy combatant
boats and ships, conduct tactical reconnaissance;
additionally the boat is used to protect the state
borders, patrol, ensure navigation safety, combat
piracy and participate in rescue operations.
KATRAN boats of Project 20970 displacing about 300
tonnes and featuring maximum speed of 33 knots are
intended for observation and patrolling to suppress
illegal navigation and smuggling in littoral sea areas,
interception and inspection of suspect vessels.
The boat can be equipped with different types
of armament and special facilities such as Infra-
red (night-vision) equipment, RHIB life rafts, fitted
with a release-lifting arrangement, with passenger
capacity for 10 persons, helicopter UAV with helipad,
and an electronic emission control system.
Special operations craft of Project 21980E
GRACHONOK are worth mentioning due to their
unique tactical and operational characteristics. This
craft is a high-speed maneuverable multipurpose
anti-subversion boat. GRACHONOK is an optimum
craft to carry out counter--terror missions during
naval bases defense operations, amphibious units
countermeasures. Likewise, its equipment and
technical characteristics make this craft suitable
for counter terrorism missions for securing public
events and for maritime state border patrol and
protection. The Special Operations craft of Project
21980E GRACHONOK can certainly be mentioned as
a specifically designed boat for dealing with a vast
scope of security tasks.
Along with the projects of combatants, Vympel
also produces survey boats - the Large Inshore
Survey boat of Project 19920E (320t displacement)
and Light Survey Vessel project 19910E (995t
After a pause of almost 20 years in the construction
of hydrofoils, Vympel Shipyard has laid down the lead
high-speed passenger-carrying hydrofoil of Project
23160 named KOMETA-120M. The vessel's
service speed is 35 knots. Roomy passengers' cabins
of both business and economy classes are equipped
with an air-conditioner and aircraft-grade chairs for
120 passengers. The laying down and consequent
serial production of new generation vessels at
Vympel Shipyard is a milestone in the development
of domestic shipbuilding.
Every maritime nation faces the task of protecting
their coastal waters against terrorist incursions
and other unlawful activities. There is an urgent
requirement for fast and more agile surface craft
for security measures. This is the reason why
experts forecast a steady demand in the global
market for littoral ships, in particular patrol boats
and small displacement ships.
Since 1930 medium and small displacement
shipbuilding has been one of the major fields of
activity of JSC Vympel Shipyard, Rybinsk, Russia.
Vympel-manufactured ships are well known both
to Russian national Naval Forces and the Coast
Guard, as well as to foreign Navies. Vympel is
currently in the process of developing new designs
and is also in the modernising many of those that
are already in service around the world.
The Vympel production line includes patrol
boats classified as Project 12150 MANGUST and
Project 14310 MIRAZH -- both of which are being
successfully operated by the Russian Border
Guard. Owing to the employment of specialized
devices such as Arneson-type drives with partially
submerged propellers and sets of automatically
controlled bottom interceptors, these boats
possess high speed, great maneuverability and
seaworthiness characteristics which enable them
to intercept almost any maritime target.
All ships meet the latest trends in
shipbuilding, and can enhance combat
capabilities of any country's navy by many
times. They are fitted with most advanced
combat information management systems
and have large upgrade potential.
Vympel is interested to participate in
cooperation with Rosoboronexport in
upgrade programs of regional Navies
employing both the whole range of
production and technical capacities and
huge shipbuilding experience which the
shipyard has gained during its more than
85 years history.
